Long Time No Post (Sorry)

This is just my "quick" apology post for not updating this site as much as I should. As such, I know I'm apologizing to a void - because that's what happens when you don't update a site: No one visits it. Since April, I've moved from Mississauga, Ontario to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and have been trying to figure things out. It's hard for me to focus on one creative outlet at a time, and even harder to focus long enough to actually finish something.

I did attend the Dartmouth Comic Arts Festival in August, and I had a booth there and gave out some nice business cards with my fancy website on them. Ah yes, my fancy new website with just my portfolio, and no online store (even though squarespace apparently has a fantastic e-commerce platform). In my defense, the two weeks leading up to that day were FULL of crazy. My emotions were all over the place, my parents were in town, I was putting in crazy hours at work, and I caught a terrible cold - oh and how could I forget, this was going to be my first ever convention I'd be tabling independently. I'd tabled at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival and Canzine, however, that was with Seneca College's Independent Illustration Program. Still though, good experience for a beginner.

Since busting my butt for that festival and nearly dying in the process, I've scarcely drawn a thing. I've been writing quite a bit, and I'm going to be applying for university (just as soon as all my paperwork is in order), but drawing stuff isn't really in my list of "things I want to be doing right now" - ever. Writing always comes easier.

Following that point, a while ago a good friend of mine showed me a screencap of a conversation she'd had with another group of people where she said that she'd be really interested to follow a blog written by me. Well, Happy Early Birthday! I'm going to try and do just that! (Oh shit that reminds me I actually need to buy her a present for her birthday, that would be an important thing to do. I know she doesn't really like gifts but I'M A THOUGHTFUL PERSON AND THE GIFTS I BUY FOR THE PEOPLE I LOVE ARE FANTASTIC.)

So, in conclusion: This portfolio site is going to turn into what I kind of wanted it to be in the first place - A hub for the things I make that isn't on Twitter, or Facebook, or Tumblr. My own website, that I can mayyyyyyybe make money from. Maybe. But that isn't really the point of this. I just have a need to make things, and I might as well put them somewhere for people to see.

A New Site, A New Start

Let's be real here: Wordpress sucks.

If you're unfamiliar with my old site, which is a good thing, you don't really know where I'm coming from here. Let's just say that if you're in art school, and you have a class that forces you to build your own web portfolio with fairly strict guidelines and pay for hosting and domains from a website that looks like it came straight out of 2006, AND all the while you know that Squarespace is a thing that exists, you're going to harbour a disdain for that first site.

If you are familiar with my old site: Hey, doesn't this look a lot better?

So now I'm here, starting fresh.

What am I doing here?

Oh right, I make art and stuff. Sometimes I do comedy too, and I like to write. This site is mainly going to be a portfolio and an intro to the things I do, for better or for worse.
